Recent updates to Spanish legislation, particularly Royal Decree 933/21 (Real Decret 933 del 2021), have sparked concerns among travellers about personal data collection requirements. At Les Voltes Barberà, we aim to provide clarity and reassurance regarding how these rules apply to our accommodation in Catalonia.

What information is required?

The new rules require us to collect and submit guest information in two stages: at the time of booking and within 24 hours of check-in.

At the time of booking:  We must collect and submit:

    • Name and surname(s) of the person making the booking
    • Email address (for communication purposes)
    • Telephone number
    • Contract number and date
    • Arrival and departure dates
    • Number of guests

Within 24 hours of check-in: For all guests, we must collect and submit:

    • Full name
    • Date of birth
    • Country of nationality
    • Type and number of identification document (e.g., passport, DNI)
    • Support number in case of Spanish IDs (DNI)
    • Email address (for minors under 14, the responsible adult’s address suffices)
    • Telephone number (same as above)
    • Full postal address (town and province for Spanish residents, town for non-Spanish residents)
    • Relationship between minors and their responsible adult

Special rules for minors:

    • Under 14 years old: The responsible adult must provide the minor’s full name, date of birth, and specify their relationship to the minor. No ID or passport details are required for the child.
    • 14 to 18 years old: We must collect the same information as for adults, including ID or passport details, and the relationship to the responsible adult must also be specified.

We will provide guests with an easy and secure form or link to submit this information prior to arrival, ensuring the process is as convenient and straightforward as possible.

What is not required?

Contrary to some misinformation, we are not required to collect sensitive financial data such as credit card numbers, expiry dates, or bank balances. These fields are not part of the registration requirements for our type of accommodation in Catalonia.

Who does this apply to?

These requirements apply specifically to short-term rental properties like Les Voltes (habitatge d’ús turístic) in Catalonia. Regulations may differ for hotels, other types of accommodations, or properties in other regions of Spain.

Commitment to guest privacy

We take data protection seriously. All information collected is submitted securely to the Mossos d’Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police force, in compliance with local laws. No data is stored beyond what is legally required for reporting purposes.

Staying updated

As this process is implemented, we will monitor for any updates or changes to the requirements. While the information provided here is current, it may evolve as we begin submitting our first guest data. We will revise this guide if necessary and keep our guests informed. Our priority is to ensure your stay is both comfortable and compliant with the latest regulations. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us.
